Divorce 101

How do I get a divorce?

The court process needed to obtain a divorce differs depending on your particular circumstances. One of the first things to consider is whether you and your former spouse can agree to the terms of the divorce, including issues such as child support, parenting, spousal support and property division. There may also be other factors to consider in your particular circumstances.

I have heard that it is best to have a Separation Agreement before filing for divorce. Is this true?

A Separation Agreement will normally deal with issues such as child and spousal support, parenting time, and division of property. A Separation Agreement may make the court process to obtain your divorce easier and less costly in the long run. You should talk to an experienced family lawyer to discuss your particular situation and whether you need a Separation Agreement in your circumstances.
